Chapter 16

Saturday arrived and it was the day of the wedding. Everyone appeared on edge. Wilder had more reasons than anyone to expect the worse. Adrienne eager anticipating this day, but Drayton sat alone in his room fidgeting with his boutonnière, a nervous wreck, wondering why him. Couldn’t Adrienne choose Lycell or Wilder, they can handle anything, he thought. It shouldn’t be me, now Lycell and Wilder are depending on me to mate with Adrienne. Suppose I can’t perform because I’m too nervous?” he thought pacing around his room.

Wilder strode into Drayton’s room and he stared at Drayton, who had his back turned looking out at the snowcapped mountain, sweating in his tux. He tugged at the tux, turning gazing at Wilder, “Who thought of this? I couldn’t look more ridiculous if I wore a real tail.”

“I think you would look worse considering,” Wilder added. Drayton’s mouth turned to a hard line, his eyes narrow.

“That bachelor party you threw for me last night didn’t help my situation. I’m more nervous than ever. Suppose Adrienne finds out about the female in the cake giving me a lap dance,” Drayton said walking back and forth. His left eye taking on a nervous twitch.

“She knows and she laughed hysterically when I told her you pushed the naked girl off your lap, because you didn’t want to be unfaithful to her.”

“You could have spared me that embarrassment. And where did all those men come from? I don’t have that many friends.”

“Those were all men from Samsaville quite happy to assist in your celebration,” Wilder said straightening Drayton’s white bow tie. “You’re going to be OK, relax.”

“Where’s my best man, and does he look like a clown too?”

“He looks very much like a clown, but with one exception, Lycell’s arm is in a sling and he’s on pain pills.”

“That’s not good.”

“I know. He might do or say anything.” Wilder shook his head. “But he insists on being there and you know him, once he makes up his mind, you can’t do anything with him.”

“I’m Robert’s best man.” Drayton glanced at Wilder who presented a rare smile.

“It’s time you warmed up to him,” he said to Wilder.

“I don’t do warm. Now let’s go. Lycell is downstairs waiting. He’s not the most patient of werewolves.”

The ceremony is held outdoors with its chill and warmth of the sun. The beautiful lawn is surrounded by large pines and a breathtaking views of the mountain range to the north of the ranch. And a large blue lake sets at the foot of the mountain.

The five hundred guest were sitting, chatting, and waiting for the bride. The flowers flown in from the Netherlands were rare tulips with an array of colors planted near the red carpet Adrienne would walk to get to the large gazebo built by Wilder.

The four year old ring bearer played with the fake ring, waiting nervously with his mother, one of the town’s people who adored the Samsas. The cute little flower girl anxious in her flowing silk dress, a present from Adrienne, held her mother’s hand tight.
